Seascapes
Joseph grew up around the Lake Michigan area, for about ten years of childhood. He spent the summer months on the family sailing yacht. Often Joseph would be carrying around a small Kodak 110 film camera. He would capture and document his experiences. During this time, Joseph gained a unique perspective. He learned about the forever-evolving elements of the sea.
The concept of a seascape has been coined from the word landscape. Seascape means “a work of art which depicts the sea” or “a view of the sea.” What makes seascapes unique is their constant fluctuation and adaption to the elements. No two seascapes are the same.
As a sailor, Joseph learned the power of weather and water. A large body of water can go from being a peaceful, tame environment. Out of nowhere a life-threatening, wild, and dangerous force within minutes. Resembling Joseph’s chaotic subconscious can engulf his peaceful rational wise mind.
Like all landscapes, seascapes have their figures and own language. In Joseph’s seascape scenes, he doesn’t capture only water and horizons. He often incorporates man-made nautical elements like lighthouses, piers, and vessels.
Joseph’s Beacon of Life has won a couple of awards. Beacon of Life has received first place for “photography.” At the 2018 Invitational Show from Associated Artists of Butler County in Pennsylvania. Received an honorable mention at the Oil Heritage Festival in Oil City, Pennsylvania.
As a viewer of Joseph’s seascapes, you will likely embrace simpler times. One of Joseph’s goals is to infuse a fading moment deep into his observer’s consciousness. He is seeking to connect to their emotional bond. Many viewers describe Joseph’s seascapes as serene, mysterious, and powerful.
